About

Northumberland County Council own the land on which Valley Park is situated and we carry out our work with their permission.  Last year, we were delighted to learn that Valley Park had been chosen for redevelopment as part of the Queen’s Memorial Projects and the last few months have seen new stone pathways laid, and two ponds created.  We are already seeing new wildlife visiting the area and will support that by installing hibernaculum for the future pond life.

Our Story

Friends of Valley Park has been created to help preserve, protect and enhance Valley Park as a benefit to the local environment, wildlife and the enjoyment of our local community.

Sitting in the south east corner of Cramlington, Valley Park is a beautiful, unspoilt green space comprising of open grassed fields, wild flowers and grasses, wetlands, mature wooded areas with woodland trails and an abundance of wildlife.

It is our intention to preserve this treasured park, as well as help to maintain it for us to enjoy now and for future generations.

Bird feeding

We were also able to make and install our first of our two bird-feeding stations.  Participation in the RSPB Big Garden Bird watch in January this year saw greater numbers of birds and species recorded.

Successful funding

Our first successful funding bids enabled us to buy insurance and pay for a noticeboard which we commissioned the Cramlington Man Shed to make for us.  This enabled us to inform visitors to the site about our work, events and projects.

Water testing

The stream running through the site was blocked by decades of litter and debris, causing flooding into the woodland.  FVP removed litter and blockages, allowing the stream to flow freely.  Thanks to a grant from Fresh Water Watch, the group also tests and monitors the quality of the water within the stream to ensure that water life can thrive.
